day 7 fertilizing french toast

i went to grab the boxed french toast from the freezer this morning for mac (abbie doesn't like it),  and i thought, well hell, i better really check this label so i don't get caught again like last night.

hmmmm, what is this little ingredient?

ammonium sulfate

what what what what WHAT!!?!?!?!?  here is a quote from the link above:

"Ammonium sulfate is used most commonly as an artificial fertilizer for alkaline soils. When introduced into damp soil, an ammonium ion is released. This creates a small amount of acid, which lowers the pH balance of the soil. It also contributes nitrogen, which aids in plant growth. It dissolves relatively slowly, which makes it cheaper than some other artificial fertilizers. Ammonium sulfate is also used as an herbicide because it will burn the leaves of plants and either kill them outright or at least weaken them for easy removal."

when mac came down for breakfast, he saw me putting the box in the garbage.

i told him what ingredient i found on the box.  he was totally grossed out.

and i quickly started making my own damn french toast.

mac sat at the table and said very matter of factly,

"you shouldn't eat fertilizer because it will make your throat hairless."

i need to make a cheat sheet to keep in my kitchen and  in my wallet until i learn all this stuff.  i am getting flashbacks to midterms...

here is a great link i found in two two clicks.  gonna start here for today processed food pitfalls.

jillian michaels wrote it and she is hot.

  3. Dude! That is crazy! Looks like that was from trader Joe's too....very disappointing. It's just like the imitation vanilla we discussed. The things they put in our food is despicable!! Good job reading those labels, chimmie.
